Reflections: Do you understand God’s mercy?⠀⠀

“Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” — Lamentations 3:23

Reflections: Do you understand God’s mercy?
⠀⠀
One of the Hebrew words we translate as “mercy” in the Bible is “rachum”, (רחום, pronounced “rakh-oom”), which means to actively show compassion.
⠀⠀
So when we read in the scriptures that God’s mercies are “new every morning”, the idea is that God is actively showing compassion toward his followers every day!
⠀⠀
When the sun comes up in the morning, God is ready to show compassion toward us!
⠀⠀
That’s good news, right!?
⠀⠀
Maybe today, you don’t feel you deserve God’s compassion. Or maybe, like me, you wake up some mornings feeling like your past will overwhelm you in the day ahead. To this, one author would say: “There is an appropriate way to use your story, not as an excuse but as a testimony to God’s ability to free you from your past.” That’s God’s mercy and compassion!
⠀⠀
So, as the sun rises this morning, I pray you will be aware of God’s tangible compassion and mercy toward you.
