No More Night

The New Earth

No More Night

God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more parting for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21.4)

“No More Night” is a favorite hymn of many that tells of a time when the pain and suffering of this life will be gone forever. “No more night/No more pain/No more tears/Never crying again/And praises to the great I Am/We will live in the light of the risen Lamb.

It turns out that’s a pretty good summary of what to expect in the new earth, which God has in store for those who follow Him. Death. sorrow, crying, pain-all the elements of the curse brought on by the rebellion in Eden-will be eliminated when God creates a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1).

That promise alone should make us long for this new world. Anyone who has lost a loved one or has endured a chronic illness or disability will appreciate the prospect of a world without pain, a world devoid of tears. Perhaps the most tragic lesson of history has been human inhumanity to our fellow humans-men, women, and children. From the wars and massacres recorded in the Bible, through the epidemics, battles, and genocides of centuries gone by, to the tragic record of the last hundred years, there are abundant examples of barbarism.

Those whose hearts ache daily over the loss of a loved one will have those wounds eternally mended. And those whose bodies were broken by disease or disability will be made whole and young and vigorous

In Isaiah 65:17, we’re promised that “the former shall not be remembered or come to mind,” meaning the sufferings of this life will not be etched into our memory banks forever. When we are made new by God, we will have hearts full of joy and gratitude. The old will have passed, never to be recalled.

What a day that will be!

Apply It:

Whatever you’re facing in life today–or have faced so far-remember that there is a bright, happy tomorrow ahead of you, in which God will heal every hurt!
