THE SECRET IN FACING THE LIONS

Good morning ,our morning manna was prepared by Sis. Erlinda L D Jocson entitled:

THE SECRET IN FACING THE LIONS

Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him to help you do it and he will. Psalm 37:5, TLB.

How did Daniel become strong enough to face the lions? Remember it was not just a lion, but a den of lions. The lions were many and there was no way Daniel could overpower them in their den. They were wild. But Daniel allowed himself willingly, without struggle, without protesting, without yielding eternal principles, to be thrown in the den! Something was behind it.

Daniel was in tune with the power that brought the lions into being on the fifth day of the creation week. Daniel was in tune with God. Daniel remained faithful in both public and religious realms of life. Thus justice, goodness, and mercy were Daniel’s watchwords. These virtues were carried into his relationship with God. When he heard that anyone caught praying to any other God apart from King Darius would be put into the lions’ den, he continued without hesitation to follow his regular prayer habits.

He did not protest the new law before King Darius. Protesting in the circumstances would only create misunderstandings and would discredit the seriousness of his position. The king would have to live with his decisions. The windows in the upstairs room in Daniel’s home were open towards Jerusalem. This indicates the direction of Daniel’s thought; he was concerned about Jerusalem. Solomon in his dedicatory prayer of the temple had suggested that effective prayer should be offered facing Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 6:26, 34, 38). There were no secrets in Daniel’s worship patterns. Open Windows cannot keep out prying eyes. And Daniel never felt that he should keep his religious practices secret. He continued reading the Scriptures. Even when he would breaking the law of the land by praying, he felt that the honest thing to do was to continue worshipping openly as he had done before. To do otherwise would be to show fear of what people may do, or to practice deceit. Daniel was not just doing something merely to be contrary or manifest “holier than thou attitude.” He did not just take delight in breaking the law. He was determined to be true to God. To do otherwise would be to deny his faith.

Daniel had been in constant tune with his God before he was thrown into the lions’ den. Such constant communion enabled him to be calm even in the lions’ den. Such personality pattern is never built in haste. He was not an emergency Christian. He had climbed the sanctification ladder up to a point that obeying God had become his lifestyle. Thus he could be in a den with lions for God’s sake. God answered and the lions did not harm him. Those who will stand erect in trying moments are those who have dedicated their lives to God.

Blessings!!
